Marco Silva refused to criticise Colombia boss Carlos Queiroz after Yerry Mina suffered a ‘serious’ hamstring injury while on international duty.
The Everton defender, who has been plagued by injury and fitness problems this season, hobbled off in the 43rd minute of Colombia’s 2-1 defeat to South Korea on Tuesday, having also played in Friday’s 1-0 win over Japan.
Toffees boss Silva revealed he had told Queiroz that Mina was not fit enough to feature in both international games.
He said: “We knew it could be a risk for him to play the two matches, it was something in our communication with the national team.
“We cannot control it, it’s their decision of course but we tried to advise them.
“It was always a risk for him to play two games in a short period. They decided and unfortunately for us and for Yerry he took the injury.”

Mina has made just 14 appearances since joining Everton in a £28.5million deal from Barcelona last summer.
Michael Keane and Chelsea loanee Kurt Zouma have been Silva’s preferred pairing in defence.
When asked if he was angry or unhappy with Queiroz’s decision to play Mina in both friendly games, Silva said: “It’s not a matter of being unhappy.
“My colleague is also Portuguese and we had this communication, but of course he decided the best thing for the national team was to always have the best players.
“Unfortunately for us and for Mina he has to stop again.”
