David Beckham attempts to lure Barcelona star Luis Suarez to Inter Miami for debut MLS campaign

David Beckham has launched an audacious bid to sign Luis Suarez for Inter Miami, according to reports.

The MLS franchise, which Beckham owns, will compete in America’s top-flight division for the first time in 2020.

And the Manchester United and England legend is desperate to land some big names for the club before their highly-anticipated debut.

According to Catalunya Radio, Beckham has tabled a four-year contract with a sizeable salary for Barcelona striker Suarez, asking him to join next year.

However, it is understood the Uruguayan has rejected the offer, as he intends to compete at the top level for a few more years.

Beckham, 44, insists he doesn’t want Inter Miami to become a retirement home for older players.

Stars from Europe often move to MLS at the tail-end of their careers – but Beckham wants high-quality individuals who are still hungry to win.

He told the Miami Herald: “We don’t just want players coming here at the end of their careers thinking, ‘Let’s go and have a couple of years in Miami and we’ll play a little bit of soccer’.

“We want players that are going to come here hungry, that have played at the top level but still want to win, and they’re not in a time where they just want to retire in a great place like Miami.

“There’s a lot of vetting going on. We’re looking for the right players.

“I’m lucky that I’ve played in many different teams in many different countries and with many different players – and they’re actually calling me.”
