Pepijn Lijnders believes Porto were the only side left in the Champions League who wanted to draw Liverpool so they could get revenge from their previous meeting.
Reds first-team coach Lijnders explained that the Portuguese side would want to go again against the side who beat them 5-0 in February 2018.
Sadio Mane scored a hat-trick during that match as Liverpool eased to a comfortable victory in last season’s Champions League round of 16.
Lijnders was a youth coach at Porto from 2007 to 2014 and understands the mentality of the club and why they would want to face the Merseyside club again.
He moved to Liverpool in 2014 to work under Brendan Rodgers, and later Jurgen Klopp.
The first-team coach left in January 2018 to manage Dutch side NEC, but returned to Anfield last May after he was sacked.

â€Å“There was only one club in the last eight that wanted us and that was Porto,†Lijnders told The Times.
â€Å“All the others in the last eight wanted to avoid us, but Porto will love the chance to go again against us. I know it because of their mentality.
â€Å“Sergio (Conceicao) is a motivational coach and he will use that. Motivate is not the right word. It is revenge. They want to set something right.
