Liverpool vs Tottenham: Why the Reds may feel optimistic and Spurs fans could be worried ahead of Premier League clash

The pick of this weekend’s Premier League fixtures sees Liverpool take on Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday.

There’s plenty to play for, with the Reds looking to carry on their push to win the title, while Spurs will be mindful that a defeat could see them slip out of the top four.

So how might this game pan out?

Obviously, you can never rationally predict the outcome of a match but that doesn’t stop some of us believing we have the power to foresee events we have no control over!

And for those of you who are superstitious creatures, you may have noticed a match between the two sides in 2014 could give a strong indication about how this weekend’s contest will play out.

On Sunday March 30th 2014, an in-form Liverpool side, who were starting to believe they could win their first ever Premier League crown put four past a sorry Spurs at Anfield.

Younes Kaboul’s own goal and strikes from Luis Suarez, Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson secured a 4-0 victory.

Coutinho scored the third goal of the game

Sunday’s match isn’t quite on the fifth anniversary of the 4-0 game but it is in the same weekend.

Plus Jurgen Klopp’s men will have played 32 matches this season which is also the amount of games Liverpool – who were managed by Brendan Rodgers at the time – had played after the win in 2014.

However, Kopites will definitely be hoping this superstition doesn’t stretch beyond the match this weekend as Liverpool’s triumph over Spurs was not enough to see them take the title home as Manchester City became victorious in the 2013/14 campaign.

And should a similar result happen, Spurs fans could be fearing the worst as they ended up finishing sixth that season.
