Free live screenings of Champions League final

Those in search of a loud and lively atmosphere to watch Sunday morning's (Singapore time) Champions League final between Liverpool and Tottenham will have several options in Singapore.
The match at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid will be screened live at Our Tampines Hub's (OTH) Town Square, which can seat 5,000.
Admission is free, but is on a first-come-first-served basis from 6.30pm on Saturday, with the first 5,000 receiving a gift. There will be free movie screenings from 7pm to 1am, when the pre-match commentary broadcast will begin.
The game kicks off at 3am.
Should the Town Square reach full capacity, supporters can also catch the live telecast at the Festive Plaza within the Hub.
There will be live entertainment at the Plaza from midnight till 3am, along with fringe activities outside the team sports hall (level two) from midnight till 4am.
More food and beverage outlets at the Hub will be extending their operating hours to complement those that are already operating 24 hours daily. Its hawker centre will also have stalls operating past 3am.
Liverpool fan and full-time national serviceman Timothy Low, 22, lives a five-minute walk from OTH. He plans to attend the screening with five friends, some of whom are Spurs supporters.
"I don't know if we'll be friends after the match," he quipped. "It's good OTH offers free screening because some of my friends don't subscribe to football channels.
"It's a place where my friends and I can watch the match together and shout rather than going to someone's house and not having (that same) atmosphere."
There will also be a free live broadcast of the final at the Sundown Marathon race village at the F1 Pit Building. It is open to the public and those supporting the runners. Randy Tan, general manager of the race organiser Infinitus Productions, said: "We believe in the celebration of sports, be it running or football. We are glad to be able to partner beIN Sports and Singtel TV to bring sports fans together and screen the final."
The official supporters' clubs in Singapore of the English teams are also organising their own sold-out screenings.

Women’s World Cup: Why Ballon d’Or winner Ada Hegerberg is NOT playing for Norway

Ada Hegerberg is one of the brightest young stars in world football, but she will not be playing on the greatest stage of all this summer.

The 23-year-old Norwegian has been unstoppable in recent years and scored a hat-trick against Barcelona last month as Lyon won yet another Champions League title.

Wonderkids who could shine in France at the Women's World Cup

Why is Ada Hegerberg not playing at the Women’s World Cup?

Hegerberg joined French powerhouses Lyon from Turbine Potsdam in 2014 and has netted more than a goal per game since.

She famously scored 49 goals in just 32 matches last campaign to pick up the first ever Ballon d’Or award in the women’s game.

The forward was part of the Norwegian team that played in the 2015 World Cup, where she was nominated for the Best Young Player Award.

In total, she has played 66 times for her country, scoring 38 goals.

But in the summer of 2017, Hegerberg decided to stop representing the national team in an effort to draw attention to the pay differences between the men’s and women’s game.

She continues to stand by this form of protest and as such will not be representing Norway this summer in France.

Hegerberg explains: “I’ve always respected men’s footballers for what they earn. The gap is enormous, but at the same time you need to give young women and girls the same opportunity as the men. That’s where we need to do the change.

Aston Villa fan claims Tyrone Mings is ‘on par with Virgil van Dijk’ and tips promoted club for top four finish next season

A euphoric Aston Villa fan called into talkSPORT on Monday night claiming Tyrone Mings is ‘on par’ with Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk.

Nick the Villan was obviously in a good mood after watching his beloved club’s Championship play-off final victory over Derby County at Wembley Stadium.

Is Bournemouth loanee Tyrone Mings on the same level as Champions League finalist Virgil van Dijk?

And he made a series of bold claims on Kick Off, saying Mings – on loan from Bournemouth – is better than PFA Player of the Year and Champions League finalist Van Dijk.

He also believes the promoted side could beat Chelsea to a top four finish in the Premier League next season.

We’ll have what Nick’s having, please!

The Villa fan said on Monday’s Kick Off: “You look at Tyrone Mings – a lot of people slagged off Van Dijk before he joined Liverpool and became the best defender in the world, apparently.

“But Mings has been immense since January when he joined us.

“I’d say he’s on a par with Van Dijk now.

“I think we could be a top four club next season. We’ve got owners who have got big money.

“Why would Tammy Abraham want to stay at Chelsea? They’re not a top four team anymore!

“I can’t see Tammy leaving us and would Jack Grealish go? Don’t be silly!”

Norwich 2-1 Blackburn: Canaries clinch promotion back to the Premier League

Norwich 2-1 Blackburn: Canaries clinch promotion back to the Premier League

Norwich have been promoted back to the Premier League.

Daniel Farke’s Canaries beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 at Carrow Road to seal automatic promotion from the Championship with a match to spare.

Goals from Marco Stiepermann and Mario Vrancic put Daniel Farke’s side 2-0 up inside 20 minutes, only for Lewis Travis to pull one back immediately for the visitors.

That was how it stayed, despite chance after chance for the home side – but it mattered not one jot as Norwich claimed the three points that left them in pole position to clinch the title ahead of Sheffield United at Aston Villa next weekend.

Norwich, who only needed a point to confirm a return to the top flight after a three-year absence, dominated a pulsating opening period and should have had promotion wrapped up at the break.

Playing the attractive brand of passing football that has been their hallmark all season, the Canaries created chance after chance but only took two of them and let Rovers back in it almost immediately after making it 2-0.

It was one-way traffic from the word go and Onel Hernandez fired a low shot just wide on eight minutes before dithering too long after being put in by Emi Buendia five minutes later.

But a packed home crowd only had seconds to wait for the opener. The ball was not properly cleared and broke nicely on the edge of the box for Stiepermann, who drilled a low shot past Jayson Leutwiler for his second opening goal in successive home games.

Top scorer Teemu Pukki and Buendia both went close to stretching the lead before a controversial moment when Darragh Lenihan was only shown a yellow card by referee Andrew Madley after bringing down Pukki as the Finnish frontman bore down on goal.

Leutwiler, on only his fourth league appearance of the season as David Raya’s deputy, then made superb point-blank saves to deny first Hernandez and then Pukki but again Blackburn could not clear their lines and

Vrancic was able to take aim before arrowing a magnificent 25-yard shot into the top corner to make it 2-0.

Norwich looked in complete command at that point but Rovers quickly dampened the party mood by pulling one back from their first effort on goal. Amari’i Bell worked himself some space on the left and did well to pick out the unmarked Travis on the edge of the box. The midfielder coolly curled the ball beyond Tim Krul’s grasp to get his side back in it.

Normal service was soon resumed however, with Leutwiler thwarting Pukki after he looked sure to score from a Stiepermann cutback and Hernandez sending a low shot inches wide of the far post.

The Blackburn keeper made a world-class save to keep out Buendia’s audacious deflected overhead kick from just outside the six-yard box after a scramble following a corner, while Hernandez was desperately unlucky when his right-foot piledriver hit the angle of post and bar with the overworked Leutwiler a mere spectator on this occasion.

All Blackburn had to offer was a Bradley Dack free-kick from a dangerous position that sailed way over and Norwich twice went close to stretching their advantage in the 74th minute, as first Hernandez was crowded out after bursting clean through and then Stiepermann was denied by the latest top-drawer save from Leutwiler when his shot looked destined for the bottom corner.

Bolton Wanderers: Championship strugglers live to fight another day as prospective buyer Laurence Bassini attends High Court

Bolton have been granted a further stay of execution by the High Court, while controversial former Watford chairman Laurence Bassini has been confirmed as the club’s prospective buyer.

The Championship outfit were back in court on Wednesday facing a winding-up petition over an unpaid tax bill but the case has been adjourned until May 8 to allow the proposed sale of the club to proceed.

Bolton have been given extra time to pay their debts

This is the sixth time in the last 18 months that Bolton have faced a winding-up order, which could result in administration or liquidation. The latest one was issued in February by HMRC over debts of £1.2million.

Current owner Ken Anderson had refused to name the prospective buyer, but on Wednesday it was revealed to be Bassini.

The club’s barrister Hilary Stonefrost told the court: “The prospective purchaser is here.”

She added that Bassini, whose controversial tenure at Vicarage Road lasted only 13 months, “has proof of funds”.

Bolton chairman Ken Anderson is eager to sell the club

Mr Bassini appeared moments before Bolton’s predicament was due to be heard and disappeared immediately afterwards, only confirming his identity and intentions to talkSPORT as he got into a white Rolls-Royce.

A representative of Bolton Wanderers told the court seven days was needed for the deal to go through.

It means Bolton’s upcoming home matches against Ipswich and Middlesborough are still under threat.

Yesterday the EFL declared fans would be unable to attend the University of Bolton stadium as the club could not meet safety requirements.

Bolton’s representative told the judge he would be “aware of the effects of liquidation on a football club” and explained that in such an event its EFL membership would be lost and it would hold no attraction to a buyer.

Bassini was banned from holding a position of authority at an English Football League club for three years in 2013 for alleged financial misconduct.

He told the Telegraph he had been unfairly treated, saying: “Very shortly, I’m going to be naming and shaming and producing – that has taken me six years – the evidence to show how dishonest people were and how I was made to be a scapegoat.”

Bolton have already faced winding-up petitions over unpaid tax and VAT in the last 18 months.

They won a similar stay of execution in the High Court three years ago to allow previous owner Sports Shield BWFC to complete a last-minute takeover.

Current owner Anderson bought a stake in the club during that buyout and took majority control in 2017 after Sports Shield went into liquidation.

The club̢۪s players went on strike this week for the second time in a year after staff were not paid in March.

It is the second month in a row that Bolton employees have not been paid on time.

The Championship club could be forced to play their next two home matches behind closed doors after being issued a prohibition notice by the club̢۪s safety advisory group.

It was decided by the group that Bolton could not guarantee fans at the University of Bolton Stadium would be safe.
